One-on-one lesson programs

Build on Your SkillsGive your playing a fresh direction.

Already playing, returning after a break or feeling stuck? Work one-on-one with a teacher to identify the next useful challenge and turn broad goals into specific things to practise.

Is this approach for you?

Start from where you are now

Bring a song, passage or technique you already play and tell us what you want to improve. Your teacher listens, asks questions and helps build a learning plan around your experience. Specialised goals are matched to a suitable instructor.

Technique & timing

Identify the small details that hold a passage back. Work on accuracy, coordination, rhythm and control with focused feedback.

Repertoire & expression

Develop music you want to play with more confidence. Look at phrasing, dynamics and how the parts of a song fit together.

Musical understanding

Connect practical playing with theory where it helps your goals. Discuss interests such as improvisation, style or songwriting when arranging a teacher match.

How your lessons take shape

  1. Assess your current playing

Play something familiar and describe what feels comfortable or frustrating. The teacher uses this to identify useful priorities.

  2. Choose a focused challenge

Work on one specific improvement at a time: a cleaner passage, steadier timing, a new technique or a musical idea you want to understand.

  3. Review and adjust

Use clear practice notes and measurable goals. As your playing develops, your teacher adjusts the material and the next steps.

A clear plan
for practice

When progress slows down, repeating the same thing in the same way may not help. Your teacher can isolate a weak spot, change the exercise or tempo, and help you hear the difference. Small, specific goals make practice more purposeful.

“A good mix of practical stuff and theory. I've been noodling around with the guitar for 50+ years and I pick up something new and useful every week.”

A few useful answers

Do I have to be an advanced player?

No. This approach is for students who already have some playing experience, including those returning after a break. The starting point is your current playing.

What should I bring to the first lesson?

Have your instrument ready and choose something you can play. Tell the teacher what you enjoy, what feels difficult and what you would like to work toward.

Can you teach a particular style or advanced technique?

Tell us your instrument, experience and specific goal when you enquire. We will discuss whether a suitable instructor is available rather than assume every teacher covers every speciality.

How will I know I am improving?

Your teacher helps set specific goals, such as cleaner repetitions, steadier timing or a passage at a new tempo. Lesson notes and regular feedback make the next steps clearer.

How do I get started?

Request a trial lesson and tell us about the student. We will get in touch to discuss a teacher match and arrange the lesson. Trial lessons have a charge; see our lesson information for current pricing and options for continuing.

These are flexible approaches to private lessons. Your teacher can combine materials as your skills and interests develop.
